Habitat Setup

Some hoggies, if put into an enclosure that is too large, can become insecure and refuse to feed. It is best to keep a good size to space ratio. A good rule of thumb is to keep them in a tub/tank/bin/cup that is about as long as they are.
Hatchling-6 inch deli cup (16oz)
For well established hatchlings, 6 qts

For larger Yearlings -Subadult and adult males 6-16qt
For adult males – 10 gal
For larger Yearling -Subadult females 6 Qt –10 gal
For adult female 31 gallon short – 40 Gallons

Whatever the size enclosure, lots of clutter should be used(they need to be able to hide as they would in the wild to feel secure). Their substrate should be at least twice the depth of the height of their bodies so they can burrow.

You can go with a natural soil substrate or with course aspen.

Your enclosure needs to have a hot side and a cool side 85 – 90 degrees on the hot side and 70 on the cool side.
