With that said, you should wait LET YOUR NEW HOGNOSE SETTLE IN – Give him/her 3-4 days to settle in before you attempt to feed. Allow 4 days between each possible failed attempt to reduce stress and promote a feeling of security to help promote eating again. Even if he/she refuses several meals, try to avoid attempts to scent their food. Provide plenty of clutter in the enclosure to help them feel secure. Be patient and do not handle your noodle until he/she has settled in and has consumed a couple of meals. If they refuse a meal, wait 4-5 days before the next attempt to avoid stressing them out even further.
Note about hognose fasting: Hognose hatchlings and adults can temporarily go off feed during the winter and very early spring usually right before and/or during breeding season. Don’t let this bother you, this species can go several months with little, or no food and it seems to be a natural element of their behavior. Patients is key.
